Email Cloaking

User moon_934 2013-03-19 16:56:28

This might be a wishlist item.

My list includes an email field in it. Currently, ListManager displays this email field in the clear.

Would it be possible instead to display this as a cloaked link to prevent spamming? Or, to use a contact form with a captcha?

Joomla does this with email fields by default.

I don't want to make my users have to enter HTML code to encode their email (they will have no idea how to do that).

Hello,

By now List Manager doesn´t include email cloacking feature or captcha in add/edit form. We take note about these to include in possible new features list.

Also, if you need some custom changes in List Manager, you can send us an email to gestion@moonsoft.es with all requirements.

Oh no! I have to have email cloaking on my site or the client will murder me. Any ideas how I might add this somehow?

Hello,

Email cloacking is, in fact, generate content using javascript instead of HTML. That´s what Joomla Email Cloacking plugin does and also List Manager. Spambots only get loaded page but not execute javascript.
List Manager gets all list using javascript so spambots don´t get any infomation inside list. Moreover, List Manager needs to get this info clear in case list in configured to edit.

Sorry, I'm just trying to be clear.

Are you saying List Manager IS cloaking the emails already? How can we test this?

Hello,
yes, the extension is already creating the content dinamically with javascript, which is exactly the same joomla cloaking function does. When the page loads, none of the data is present at the page, not even the plain text cells.

Are you saying those emails are NOT visible to spambots?

Moonsoft support 2013-06-27 09:56:35

Right,
because that information is written at your page after the content is loaded, using javascript, which is exactly the same joomla email cloaking function does. Try your page disabling javascript for a while, and you will see which content is enabled for a spambot visiting your site.

Best regards
