TypeError: $(...).addEvent is not a function

Usuario moon_953 2013-03-11 15:40:50

Hi,

I am trying to get a simple calculator working on a site just updated to Joomla 2.5.9. I exported the calculator from Joomla 1.5 and it was working fine, but since the upgrade to Joomla 2.5 it no longer works (I purchased the updated component for Joomla 2.5 and installed it, then imported the calculator from Joomla 1.5).

I have tried importing your example calculators, but none of them work either, so I cannot see what is wrong. The only error message that I can find in my Firefox browser is "TypeError: $(...).addEvent is not a function
Source File: http://www.eaucoolers.co.uk/bottled-vs-plumbed-calculator
Line: 561"

You can see the error if you go to www.eaucoolers.co.uk/bottled-vs-plumbed-calculator, but nothing happens when you click the calculate button.

Please help urgently.

Hello,
that message usually means the mootools library is not longer working on your site (or some other content on the page is making it crash). We can see the mootools library is being imported on your template, so it seems some other plugin is causing conflict.
Please try to disable for a while the extension

swMenuFree

and try again the calculator page. We can see it's importing a jquery library without using noconflict instruction. This could be the origin of your issue.

Thank you for your super fast response.

I am unable to disable the swMenuFree, as I need this for my menu system, so I am looking at changing the coding to load JQuery in no conflict mode so that hopefully this will fix the problem.

Thank you.

Hello,
seems the conflicts have been reported with other plugins when using the swmenu. We found a forum thread from that component support with some suggestions about how to solve this issue. We paste it here in case it may help you:
